This flow chart provides you with criteria to think about when evaluating books to add to your classroom library.

Criteria

The book should accurately portray the culture, disability, gender or experience

The book should not portray a stereotype.

The characters should be believable and authentic.

Illustrations should be authentic. They should represent the characters and experiences accurately and unbiasedly.

The book should be appropriate for the grade level.

The book should be published within the last 10 years.

The book should not be an experience that is already represented in the library heavily while others are not.
